Homeowners insurance helps protect your finances when the unexpected happens to your home or on your property. Rather than paying out of pocket for major damage or liability claims, you transfer much of that risk to your insurance company in exchange for a premium.
A standard homeowners policy can provide coverage in several key areas, depending on the options and limits you choose:
- Dwelling coverage – Helps pay to repair or rebuild your home if it’s damaged or destroyed by a covered event, such as fire, wind, hail, or certain types of water damage.
- Other structures – Extends protection to structures on your property that are not attached to your home, like a detached garage, shed, or fence.
- Personal property – Helps cover your belongings (furniture, clothing, electronics, appliances, and more) if they are stolen or damaged by a covered loss.
- Liability protection – Can help protect you financially if someone is injured on your property or if you accidentally cause damage to someone else’s property. It may help cover legal fees, medical bills, and settlements up to the limits of your policy.
- Loss of use (additional living expenses) – If a covered incident makes your home uninhabitable, this coverage can help pay for temporary housing, meals, and other extra costs while your home is being repaired or rebuilt.
If an incident outside of your control occurs—such as a fire, storm damage, theft, or certain accidents—you can file a claim with your insurance company. If the loss is covered, you may receive payment to help repair damage, replace property, or address liability expenses, subject to your policy limits and terms. In many cases, you’ll pay a deductible, which is the amount you’re responsible for before your insurance coverage begins to pay.
Because every home and household is different, it’s important to choose coverage amounts and options that reflect your home’s value, your belongings, and your overall risk. At Live Oak Insurance & Financial, we can review your situation, explain your policy in plain language, and help you select homeowners coverage that provides solid protection and peace of mind.
